The Angus Branch of the Black Watch Association held their annual El Alamein dinner on Saturday 25th October 2008 at the Royal British Legions Clubrooms in Forfar. Major Ronnie Proctor (late Black Watch) chaired the evening and Colonel Jake Hensman late (Royal Marines) was the guest of honour and guest speaker who gave a very interesting wide and varied talk which covered from the Battle of El Alamein to the present day conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq and the need for Regimental Associations to help give value and necessary support to those who require it particularly after, they had left the forces.
The Angus Branch of the Black Watch Association was formed in 1999 and ten of the forming members were World War two veterans who had all taken part in the Battle of El Alamein. It was decided that the annual branch dinner be named after this turning point in World War two in which the 1st, 5th and 7th battalions took part. Sadly our WW2 veteran numbers have been reduced to three but the memory of their actions will always be remembered.
