The new displays will be housed in 12 spaces on the ground and first floor. We believe we now have a plan which gives a logical flow and makes the best use of the available space.

The Galleries

We propose that the new Museum displays will be split between chronological displays and themed or object-based displays. We decided to make this split because we feel it is important to tell the story of The Black Watch in a traditional way. A chronological approach is the most coherent form of narrative for what is a linear story.

However, the nature of the collections and the various interests of different visitor groups offer opportunities to compliment the core historical narrative through additional theme based galleries. We recognise that we need to make the collections and story available in other ways to new audiences.

There will be a different feel between the types of displays, which will be divided between chronological and themed spaces as shown below.
