Are you considering making a legacy?

If you wish to support The Black Watch Museum with a legacy your solicitor might the following wording useful to write or amend your Will. You can choose to leave a share of your estate, a fixed sum or a specific gift.

A residuary legacy (share of estate)

"I direct my executors to make over the residue (or a percentage share of the residue) of my estate to The Black Watch Museum Trust, Scottish Charity No. SC005848 at Balhousie Castle, Hay Street, Perth, PH1 5 HR for its general charitable purposes. I further direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper officer of the charity for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my executors."

A pecuniary legacy (a set sum)

"I direct my executors to pay the sum of (amount in words and figures) to The Black Watch Museum Trust, Scottish Charity No. SC005848 at Balhousie Castle, Hay Street, Perth, PH1 5 HR for its general charitable purposes. I further direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper officer of the charity for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my executors."

A specific legacy (an object of value)

"I direct my executors to make over (full description of item) to The Black Watch Museum Trust, Scottish Charity No. SC005848 at Balhousie Castle, Hay Street, Perth, PH1 5 HR for its general charitable purposes. I further direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other proper officer of the charity for the time being shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my executors."

Other information to include

"If at my death any charity named as a beneficiary in this Will or any Codicil hereto has changed its name or amalgamated with or transferred its assets to another body then my Executors shall give effect to any gift made to such charity as if it had been made (in the first case) to the body in its changed name or (in the second place) to the body which results from such amalgamation or to which such transfer has been made."
