An Illustrated Presentation led by Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Cartwright, Commanding Officer of The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland on the Battalion’s recent tour of Afghanistan.

The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland has recently returned from an operational tour of Afghanistan.

The Battalion was the only Aviation Assault Battalion available to both the Commander Regional Command (South) and 19 Light Brigade, of which the Battalion was part. Employed in fast moving and dangerous strike operations throughout the area of Helmand province, the Battalion, led by Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Cartwright, was involved in most of the major operations conducted in Helmand Province this summer, including playing a key role in Operation Panther’s Claw which provided security for the government elections in Afghanistan.
In addition, D Company formed an Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team, working cheek by jowl with the Afghan Army, as they provided advice, encouragement and, above all an outstandingly professional example for the nascent Afghan Army to follow. Much under sung, this role is critical to the United Kingdom’s hopes to establish a legitimate government in Afghanistan capable of maintaining some form of law and order.
Lieutenant Colonel Cartwright’s presentation will describe the operations conducted by the Battalion throughout a long and arduous summer and then, questions will be taken.

During this deployment the Battalion lost 6 soldiers all of whom laid down their lives in the line of duty.

All profits from the lecture will be divided equally between The Royal Regiment of Scotland Association Welfare Fund and The Black Watch Heritage Appeal.

Tickets for lecture £8.50
