The Royal Scots Borderers is the name given to the 1st Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland. The battalion was formed in August 2006 by the amalgamation of the Royal Scots and King's Own Scottish Borderers.
The new Scottish Regiment will have bases in Edinburgh, Northern Ireland, Preston and Fallingbostel, in Germany. It will operate in a number of tactical roles from Light Infantry to Heavy Armoured Infantry. The Kings Own Scottish Borderers and the Royal Scots are to be amalgamated to form a new Battalion. The other 4 regiments will lose their Regimental status and will be downgraded to numbered Battalions of the new Royal Regiment of Scotland.
