The Black Watch Museum Object of the Month

The Black Watch Regimental Association exists to maintain the bonds of friendship forged in peace and war as well as to provide benevolence for serving and retired soldiers.

The Black Watch Association

The Black Watch Association is a charity which helps all those who have served in The Black Watch Regiment and their dependants when they find themselves in adverse circumstances.

Every officer and other rank who joins The Black Watch and subscribes to the "One Day’s Pay Scheme" is automatically a member of The Association.  All officers and other ranks that have served in any Battalion of the Regiment are eligible to become members of The Association and of its branches.

Assistance is given where a report prepared by a SSAFA Forces help caseworker indicates a genuine need.  Any grant given is authorised by the Welfare Committee.  Grants are paid to SSAFA Forces Help who administer its expenditure.

There is also a Holiday Scheme for widows of Black Watch servicemen and Education Grants can be made to soldiers who have retired or are about to do so; this type of grant can, in some cases, be made to their children.  Funds to enable The Association to carry out its charitable work are obtained through our investments and donations, made primarily through the Gift Aid Scheme.

The Association is based at Balhousie Castle in Perth, The Black Watch’s spiritual home, and there are branches all over the UK.
