Volunteer Role Description

Role Title: Greeter/Front of House

Location: Shop/Front of House

Department: Retail

Line-Manager: Lorna Tunstall, Retail Manager

Purpose of the role:

To welcome visitors at the entrance of the Museum 
To describe the layout of the building and explain what attractions await the visitor
To hand the visitor over to a Guide, or self-guided tour
To assist in general duties front-of-house as required

Main Duties and Activities:

·        Be enthusiastic about The Black Watch, the future of Balhousie and sell The Black Watch legend.
·        Be prepared to know or learn about Black Watch history and the details in outline of each room.
·        Be articulate and endowed with good interpersonal skills.

Hours or Day(s) Required:

Approximately one half day per week.

Skills & Personal Qualities:

·        Eye for detail
·        Smart and clean turn-out
·        Basic Computer skills
·        Be ready to lend a hand whenever required

Training of the Volunteer:

·        Interpersonal skills and management of visitors
·        Historical and contemporary knowledge of The Black Watch, Balhousie Castle, the British Army or the Armed Forces
·        Knowledge of various Black Watch Castle and Museum initiatives

Resources required:

·        Staff time (for training and initial supervision)
·        Staff rest room
